CABLE STATION
Hearts Content Newfoundland
It was here where the Great Eastern ship landed the very first transatlantic telegraph cable to the relief of many because there were two previous failed attempts over the years.
Back in its day the Hearts Content cable station was at the centre of innovation and truly at the cutting edge of technology at the time and played a key role for over one hundred years in the overseas communication sector.
1866 was the year that a major leap forward in global communications landed ashore at a tiny rural Newfoundland outport. Equipment and diplays explain the role the community played on the global stage.
